A4A's structure separates governance, executive leadership, independent assurance and operational delivery so that responsibility and accountability remain clear throughout the organisation.

Institutional Structure

From governance to operational delivery.

The Board of Trustees provides governance and strategic oversight. Executive leadership is responsible for organisational management, while Internal Audit provides independent assurance.

Day-to-day operational delivery is organised through three directorates: Legal Affairs; Finance, Administration & HR; and Planning.

Operational Structure

Three directorates carry A4A's work forward.

Each directorate has a defined institutional mandate and reporting structure. Leadership biographies remain under Who We Are; this page focuses only on how the organisation functions.

Director of Legal Affairs

Legal Affairs

The Legal Affairs Directorate leads A4A's legal-aid delivery and supports consistent, ethical and beneficiary-focused legal practice across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

Coordinate legal-aid casework, legal advice, representation and case support for eligible beneficiaries.
Maintain professional and ethical standards across A4A's legal-service delivery.
Supervise legal programme implementation and support the work of legal officers and legal assistants.
Provide legal expertise for public legal education, advocacy, referrals and justice-sector engagement.

Director of Finance, Administration & HR

Finance, Administration & HR

This directorate provides the financial, administrative, people, logistics and procurement systems that enable A4A's legal and programme work.

Key responsibilities

Coordinate financial management, budgeting, accounting, controls and routine financial reporting.
Manage administration, human resources, logistics and day-to-day organisational support.
Coordinate procurement processes and maintain the records required for accountable operations.
Support office operations, assets, transport and other enabling services across the organisation.

Director of Planning

Planning

The Planning Directorate supports organisational planning, monitoring, evaluation, learning and evidence-based reporting across A4A's programmes and institutional commitments.

Key responsibilities

Coordinate organisational and programme planning in line with A4A's priorities.
Support monitoring and evaluation of activities, outputs and institutional commitments.
Maintain programme-performance information and contribute to field, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.
Support learning, evidence use and management information for programme and organisational decision-making.

Independent Assurance

Internal Audit

Internal Audit sits outside the three operational directorates so that its assurance role remains independent.

The function supports accountable systems, internal controls and institutional oversight. A4A's supplied organogram places the Head of Internal Audit at Country Director level rather than within an operational directorate.
